Well what a year it has been! Just to think that it was 1 year ago that we moved to sydney to pursue a new position within the college I work for, and 12 months later, I feel like Sydney is well and truly our new home, albeit for the rain. not cool.
Anyhows I have some time off over Christmas which is giving me lots of time to reflect on the year that has been as well as do some much loved cooking, something that I don’t seem to be doing much of anymore. Shame on me!
Next year you will be glad to know that I have grand plans for We Are Messengers with lots of ideas that I am dreaming up in my head. Perhaps over my christmas break I will get a chance to make a start on these… watch this space.
From the gang here at We Are Messengers we wish ALL of our friends, Facebook and Twitter followers and those who purchased our cards a very merry christmas and a happy new year! Don’t forget to remind yourselves what the true meaning of christmas is all about…

Well it’s been a while since my last post…. life has been busy in Sydney :-)
We are enjoying life here so much, particularly because there is so much to see and do every day. One place that I like to visit is Deus Ex Machina – If you have never heard of this place then you need to get yourself acquainted! Now. From the outside it pretty much looks like motorbikes and man stuff, however the signage on the outside always intrigued me (mainly because it is very typographic = love) once I peered through the doorway to take a peek inside I discovered a new heaven.
If you’re into appreciating fine machinery, as well as finely made clothing, accessories and artworks then you too will share a love for Deus just like I do.

Through some of my stumblings on the web I found artist Dawn Tan and immediately fell in love with her work… Only to discover that I had already seen so much of her work in Frankie Magazine.
Check out her blog Handmade Love and whilst there be sure to check out her online store.
I just adore her illustrations…

I am finding myself in love with dainty ceramic bowls and dishes. They seem to make a cute little statement wherever they sit in the house. One ceramic artist who I stumbled across at Bleeding Heart in Brisbane is Kim Aitken. You can see a small selection of her work on display or you can contact Kim direct to discuss other products in stock as well as offering a custom order service. I’m writing my list now….

One of my colleagues at Shillington College is part of the People Collective – and they have recently launched a project for a beautiful typeface they have developed called Sauerkraut. If you are into typography and want to support independants like these guys then I urge you to jump on board and pledge some money to help fund their typeface production… and the best part is, by pledging some money you willl receive some lovely presents in return. Good luck guys!

I recently found this amazing work from motion/still artist Todd McLellan. The colours are just so mesmerizing, as is the way he precisely lays out each piece so intricately. Find this in the New Work section of his site.

I found this beautiful online store filled with fabulous designed paper goods called ‘Felt & Wire Shop’. If you haven’t come across this shop before, then I do recommend a cup of tea and a few hours set aside for browsing. So many gorgeous prints, cards, calendars, light fittings and diaries… Love this coral Toucan print – I can see it on my wall now.

I’m surprised we haven’t told you about The Design Kids yet! It’s an online store where Graphic Designers can sell one-off limited edition pieces. Run by the talented Frances Ratford, be sure to keep your eyes out for The Design Kids at a market or website near you!
Loving the Roses for Rose Tee & The Bird Pegs

I’ve just come across these beautiful T’s by one of my ex-students at Shillington College. Her label is Milatree, and I’m in love. The designs are oh so sweet and are 100% organic. Great job Than!

Feeling a little obsessive about cushions and have found this beautiful online store Ferm Living
It’s becoming very difficult trying to choose now…
